About
Connie Chau is an award-winning illustrator, painter, and graphic designer known for her ability to work across traditional and digital mediums. Originally from Hong Kong, she is now based in the U.S. after graduating from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). Her creative journey began in traditional art forms, where she mastered techniques such as watercolor, gouache, and charcoal. Over time, she fully embraced digital tools, merging her foundational skills with modern technology to create visually striking, concept-driven illustrations.
Connie's work is deeply rooted in the cultural context of Hong Kong. Through her art, she offers audiences around the world an intimate glimpse into Hong Kong's unique customs, beliefs, and history. Her latest illustrated book, Whisker of Fortune, explores traditional Hong Kong superstitions through the eyes of a black cat named Mui Mui, intertwining folklore with her distinct artistic style.
Connie’s art reflects her personal experiences as an autistic and introverted artist. These qualities give her a unique perspective, allowing her to create emotionally resonant pieces that deeply connect with viewers. As someone who once struggled to express herself verbally, her work is a powerful medium for storytelling and emotional expression. Her ability to transform unspoken feelings into visual narratives is one of her greatest strengths.
Her journey has been marked by both recognition and challenges. Connie’s work has been featured in CanvasRebel Magazine and The Introspect Magazine, and she has won several prestigious awards, including the Copic Award in 2023. Yet, her path has not been without obstacles. The closure of SCAD’s Hong Kong campus during the pandemic forced her to make the difficult decision to relocate to the U.S., an experience that pushed her out of her comfort zone and helped her grow personally and artistically.
Currently, Connie is focused on building her career as an editorial and book illustrator. She believes in the power of illustration to transcend language barriers and communicate emotions and stories that resonate globally. As she continues to evolve as an artist, she hopes to use her work to speak life stories and help others understand the rich cultural heritage of Hong Kong, while making her mark on the international art scene.
In her free time, Connie enjoys observing life through long walks in the city, reading comics, experimenting with makeup, cooking, and biking—activities that allow her to recharge and find inspiration for her next project.
